What Is Intermittent Fasting, and Is It For You?
First things first: Any weight-loss doctor or nutritionist worth their salt will tell you that intermittent fasting isn’t new. Fasting has been used for millennia with religious practices, lack of food resources and plain ol’ hopes of losing weight.
But it’s been given some new life recently, perhaps because it feels less restrictive than counting carbs, and celebrities such as Terry Crews, Jennifer Lopez and Kourtney Kardashian have been rumored to practice it. Plus, there’s growing body of scientific studies to support that it could also be the key to a longer life—not just because of the weight loss but because of how it may reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, boost metabolism and cell regeneration, improve the gut microbiome and increase insulin sensitivity.
