Is Drinking Kombucha as Good as Fasting?
When a person has too much fat stored within their body, particularly triglycerides, it can increase their risk for several health conditions, including cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, stroke, and heart failure. High triglyceride levels in the body are also linked to a heightened risk for acute inflammation in the pancreas, which may increase the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
Previous research shows that making healthy lifestyle changes like exercising regularly, losing weight, limiting alcohol use, and eating a healthy diet that is high in fiber and healthy fats and low in refined sugars and carbohydrates can help lower triglyceride levels. Now, researchers from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill say that drinking kombucha tea may also help reduce fat accumulation and lower triglyceride levels via a worm model. The study was recently published in the journal PLOS Genetics.
New ways to lower fat stores in the body: According to Rob Dowen, PhD, professor of cell biology and physiology in the School of Medicine at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and lead author of this study, it is important to discover new ways for people to reduce fat accumulation and lower triglyceride levels in the body because modern diseases including diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease are among the leading contributors to early death.
