Is ChatGPT Reducing Burnout or Adding to It?
A new Tebra survey found that 60% of healthcare professionals report reduced burnout after using ChatGPT to streamline documentation, note-taking and patient communication. For workers managing heavy administrative loads, the appeal is obvious. Spending less time on routine tasks means more focus, fewer after-hours demands and a greater sense of control over the workday.
However, the same research suggests a more complex reality. Fourteen percent of respondents say they have felt emotionally dependent on an AI tool like ChatGPT, checking it compulsively, using it to cope with stress or feeling anxious without access. For 12%, an AI outage would be more disruptive than a colleague calling in sick.
As AI becomes embedded in daily workflows, the question is no longer whether ChatGPT can reduce burnout. It is how sustained reliance on these tools reshapes mental load, confidence and resilience at work.
