What’s the Relationship Between Body Image and GLP-1s?
GLP-1s, or glucagon-like peptide-1, are hormones that the small intestine produces, which regulate blood sugar and appetite. Many people may take a synthetic version for conditions such as diabetes.
People may also use the synthetic versions for chronic weight management. Synthetic versions in injection form are available under brands such as semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound), depending on the country. The medications in them include semaglutide, dulaglutide, tirzepatide, and liraglutide. Mounjaro is not strictly a GLP-1, but is a GLP-1/GIP.
In the past few years, GLP-1s such as Ozempic and Mounjaro have become a trending topic, as many people take them to facilitate weight loss. Ozempic and Mounjaro are diabetic drugs that people may take off-label to facilitate weight loss, though they are indicated for chronic weight management under their other names, such as Wegovy and Zepbound.
