Are You Eating These Healthy Fall Foods?
Pumpkins may be a quintessential fall vegetable, but many other seasonal fruits and vegetables offer diverse flavors and nutrients to add to your plate.
- Apples: Apples are a grocery-list staple all year, but especially during the fall. Like all plant foods, apples are a good source of fiber. They are especially high in pectin, a soluble fiber that stabilizes blood sugar and helps keep you full longer. Pectin is also thought to promote a healthier gut microbiome, the community of health-influencing microbes in your digestive system.
Additionally, apples are a good source of vitamin C, an antioxidant that supports immunity and skin health. Some studies suggest that regularly eating apples is also good for your heart, helping to lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol and reduce cellular stress.
