Ready to Tweak Your Diet for Spring?

Spring is the season we all long for. After months spent in swaddling knits under grey skies, everyone is desperate to reemerge into the outside world by April. The change in weather always tends to come hand in hand with a renewed sense of energy, and the subconscious urge to change up our eating. If winter is defined by rich, comforting dishes and warming foods, spring and summer see us craving crunchy, fresh foods like vegetables and salads. Almost unintentionally, our meals become lighter.

“In spring, the light, temperatures and often our energy levels change,” nutrition biologist Lisa Prossliner explains. “After the winter months, the body often begins to prefer a fresher, lighter style of eating.” This isn’t about restriction, she maintains, rather a seasonal recalibration.

What changes in the body during spring? Longer daylight hours play a powerful role in how we feel and the way we eat.
