Are GLP-1s Creating Nutritional Gaps?

While protein intake is important for everyone, doctors have made it clear that it’s especially crucial if you’re using a GLP-1 medication. This helps prevent excessive lean muscle mass loss, which may have an impact on metabolism, strength, and mobility.

But new research suggests that people on GLP-1s should focus on more than just protein. The scientific review, which was published in Obesity Reviews, highlights how people who take newer weight loss medications may not get enough nutritional guidance to support their health, leaving them vulnerable to vitamin and mineral deficiencies. What’s behind this and what can you do to combat it if you take a GLP-1? Doctors break it down.

What did the study find? For the analysis, researchers looked at data from 12 studies that focused on diet and nutrition in people who took semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) or tirzepatide (Zepbound, Mounjaro).
