How Can You Diet Like an Olympian?
The summer Olympics saw the world unite to cheer on their favourite athletes and made for some iconic viral moments as Olympians shared a candid look at their secretive village and spilt some behind-the-scenes details. One such moment was spurred by Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen whose revelations about chocolate muffins in the Olympic cafeteria left millions entertained and even earned him the title of Olympic Muffin Man.
So if muffins are on the menu, which most mainstream commercial diets don’t even allow for, what does the diet look like fueling the world-renowned competitors? Nutritionists and experts at the weight-loss programme Second Nature took a deep dive into Olympic dishes.
Nutritionist Robbie Puddick noted that there isn’t a “one size fits all” diet for the Olympics, pointing out: “Diets look different for each Olympian based on their sport and personal preferences. For example, climber Jesse Grupper eats a pescatarian and gluten-free diet, while swimmer Caeleb Dressel follows a diet consisting of plenty of seafood and red meat.
